About The Glass

The boulders of Larapuna / Bay of Fires are unlike anything else in Australia. Lichen has grown on them for thousands of years, painting the granite a vivid orange that glows in the morning light. The coastline runs for 50 kilometres of white sand and turquoise water, and the boulders are the part that everyone remembers.

A tallboy with the boulders hand-pressed in 3D into the base, with coloured resin set into the sculpt to bring the signature orange home. At 500ml, it works for beer, cider, or a tall cocktail. Fill it with water and the resin lights up like embers at the bottom.

This glass is hand wash only. The coloured resin in the base is what makes it different from every other glass in our range, and it needs hand washing to keep its colour vivid for years.

Tasmania Collection

The fire of the coast, captured in glass.

The granite boulders of Larapuna have been standing on Tasmania's north-east coast for hundreds of millions of years. The lichen growing across them is what gives the bay its name. Captain Tobias Furneaux saw the cooking fires of the Palawa people from his ship in 1773 and called the place Bay of Fires, but it was the lichen that turned the boulders into flame.

Today the coastline runs from Binalong Bay in the south to Eddystone Point in the north, almost 50 kilometres of white sand, turquoise water, and the orange boulders the bay is known for. It sits inside Mount William National Park, alongside the open Tasmanian forest where Bennett's wallabies move through the dunes at dusk and sea eagles ride the thermals overhead. It is one of the most photographed coastlines in the country, and one of the quietest.

For the Palawa people, this country has been home for tens of thousands of years. The Palawa Kani name, Larapuna, is the one we use first, in honour of that. The orange-lichen boulders that visitors photograph are part of a living country that has been cared for far longer than any of us have been here to see it.

We made this glass to honour that fire. A small daily reminder of a coast that glows in the morning, and a people who have always called it home. Whether you've stood on those boulders barefoot or only seen them in a photograph, every pour brings a little of Larapuna back into your hands.

So pour a drink, find a window, and raise a glass to the fire of the coast.

Frequently Asked
Questions

What are the glasses made from?

Our glasses are made from borosilicate glass, used in Pyrex and ovenware. It's stronger, lighter, and more thermally resistant than standard glass. It can handle daily use, hot or cold drinks, and the rattle of a dishwasher, while keeping the clarity of fine crystal. Avoid pouring boiling water directly into them, as the glass will become very hot.

Are the glasses dishwasher safe?

Absolutely! Every glass in our range is built for daily use and dishwasher safe on the top rack. They stay clear and residue-free over time. The one exception is the Bay of Fires Tallboy, which should be hand washed to protect the coloured resin in the base.

How durable are the glasses?

Borosilicate is one of the most durable glass materials available and withstands everyday use, but no glass is unbreakable, especially on hard surfaces like concrete tiles. Normal handling, washing, and shipping rarely cause breakages.

How do you get the 3D design into the glass?

Each design is hand-pressed into the base. After shaping, the glass is reheated and carefully pressed by hand onto a graphite mould in the shape of the 3D design, forming a raised silhouette of the icon. Once the glass cools, you’re left with a one-of-a-kind glass. Because every piece is pressed by hand, no two are ever exactly alike, so yours carries its own small story of the place it came from.

Do you offer corporate or wholesale orders?

Yes. We work with gift shops, galleries, national park visitor centres, and corporate event organisers across Australia. Custom branding is available and minimum order quantities apply. Visit our wholesale page for full details on pricing, MOQs, and customisation options, or get in touch directly to talk through your brief.
