About The Glass

The Sydney Opera House was designed by Jørn Utzon and completed in 1973. It stands as a symbol of architectural innovation and Australia's creative spirit. It sits on Bennelong Point, known to the Gadigal people as Tubowgule, looking out over the thriving marine ecosystem of Sydney Harbour, one of the most biodiverse harbours in the world. We made this glass to honour one of Australia's great icons, and to bring a piece of Sydney Harbour into your home.

Our stemless wine glass captures the Opera House's iconic silhouette: the sails and the unmistakable shape of one of the world's most recognised buildings, sculpted in 3D into the base of each glass. At 440ml, it works beautifully as a wine glass, a cocktail glass, or a daily water glass, bringing a little harbour-side calm wherever you raise it.

Australian Icons

A icon of Sydney, rises up.

When Jørn Utzon's design was chosen from 233 entries in 1957, no one had built anything like it. Sixteen years, four construction stages, and one of the most ambitious engineering projects of the 20th century later, the Sydney Opera House opened to the world in October 1973, christened with Beethoven's Ninth and a televised crowd that stretched from the steps to the harbour.

Since then, it has hosted more than 100,000 performances. Today, over 10 million people walk its concourse every year. It's been a stage for Joan Sutherland's last great role, for Crowded House's farewell to a generation, for the 2000 Olympic triathlon, and for moments most Sydneysiders measure their lives against. In 2007 it became a UNESCO World Heritage site, one of the youngest buildings ever to earn the listing.

We made this glass to honour that. A small daily reminder of the harbour, the sails, and the city they belong to. Whether you've stood at the base of those sails or only seen them in a film, every pour brings a little of Sydney back into your hands.

Frequently Asked
Questions

What are the glasses made from?

Our glasses are made from borosilicate glass, used in Pyrex and ovenware. It's stronger, lighter, and more thermally resistant than standard glass. It can handle daily use, hot or cold drinks, and the rattle of a dishwasher, while keeping the clarity of fine crystal. Avoid pouring boiling water directly into them, as the glass will become very hot.

Are the glasses dishwasher safe?

Absolutely! Every glass in our range is built for daily use and dishwasher safe on the top rack. They stay clear and residue-free over time. The one exception is the Bay of Fires Tallboy, which should be hand washed to protect the coloured resin in the base.

How durable are the glasses?

Borosilicate is one of the most durable glass materials available and withstands everyday use, but no glass is unbreakable, especially on hard surfaces like concrete tiles. Normal handling, washing, and shipping rarely cause breakages.

How do you get the 3D design into the glass?

Each design is hand-pressed into the base. After shaping, the glass is reheated and carefully pressed by hand onto a graphite mould in the shape of the 3D design, forming a raised silhouette of the icon. Once the glass cools, you’re left with a one-of-a-kind glass. Because every piece is pressed by hand, no two are ever exactly alike, so yours carries its own small story of the place it came from.

Do you offer corporate or wholesale orders?

Yes. We work with gift shops, galleries, national park visitor centres, and corporate event organisers across Australia. Custom branding is available and minimum order quantities apply.
