About The Glass

The platypus is one of those animals that sounds made up. A mammal that lays eggs, with a duck-like bill, webbed feet, thick waterproof fur, and a venomous spur. When the first specimen reached Europe, scientists were convinced it was a stitched-together hoax. It is one of only a handful of egg-laying mammals left on Earth, and it lives quietly in the freshwater creeks and rivers of eastern Australia and Tasmania.

A stemless glass with a platypus hand-pressed in 3D into the base. At 440ml it works beautifully as a daily water glass, a wine glass, or a quiet desk reminder of one of the most curious animals in the country.

We made this one for animal lovers, the curious, and anyone who has waited at the edge of a still creek at dusk hoping to catch the ripple of a platypus surfacing.

Wildlife Collection

Australia's strangest animal, captured in glass.

The platypus is unlike anything else alive. It is a mammal that lays eggs. It has a bill like a duck, feet like an otter, and a tail like a beaver. The males carry venom in a spur on their hind legs. It hunts with its eyes closed, finding insect larvae and small aquatic creatures by sensing the faint electrical signals their bodies give off in the water. For two centuries it has baffled and delighted everyone who encounters it.

You will find them in the freshwater creeks and rivers of eastern Australia and Tasmania, usually at dawn and dusk, usually as a quiet ripple and a glimpse before they dive again. They are shy, mostly solitary, and easy to miss. Seeing one in the wild is the kind of small, lucky moment that stays with you.

But the platypus is under pressure. Habitat loss, drought, pollution, and a changing climate have pushed it onto the near-threatened list, and the freshwater systems it depends on are exactly the kind of wild places worth fighting for.

We made this glass to honour that strange, brilliant animal. A small daily reminder of the creek at dusk and the ripple on the water. Whether you have spotted one in the wild or only ever in a book, every pour brings a little of that quiet wonder back into your hands.

So pour a drink, find a window, and raise a glass to the strangest animal in the country.

Frequently Asked
Questions

What are the glasses made from?

Our glasses are made from borosilicate glass, used in Pyrex and ovenware. It's stronger, lighter, and more thermally resistant than standard glass. It can handle daily use, hot or cold drinks, and the rattle of a dishwasher, while keeping the clarity of fine crystal. Avoid pouring boiling water directly into them, as the glass will become very hot.

Are the glasses dishwasher safe?

Absolutely! Every glass in our range is built for daily use and dishwasher safe on the top rack. They stay clear and residue-free over time. The one exception is the Bay of Fires Tallboy, which should be hand washed to protect the coloured resin in the base.

How durable are the glasses?

Borosilicate is one of the most durable glass materials available and withstands everyday use, but no glass is unbreakable, especially on hard surfaces like concrete tiles. Normal handling, washing, and shipping rarely cause breakages.

How do you get the 3D design into the glass?

Each design is hand-pressed into the base. After shaping, the glass is reheated and carefully pressed by hand onto a graphite mould in the shape of the 3D design, forming a raised silhouette of the icon. Once the glass cools, you’re left with a one-of-a-kind glass. Because every piece is pressed by hand, no two are ever exactly alike, so yours carries its own small story of the place it came from.

Do you offer corporate or wholesale orders?

Yes. We work with gift shops, galleries, national park visitor centres, and corporate event organisers across Australia. Custom branding is available and minimum order quantities apply. Visit our wholesale page for full details on pricing, MOQs, and customisation options, or get in touch directly to talk through your brief.
